My favorite Dojo had a terrible accident . This morning my Biowheel intake tube and guared were knocked off and at the bottom. This left 2" protruding, where it seems the Dojo stuck his nose and mouth in there and was augered by the intake.

He has lost all of his feelers and barbs, his face is very red, his eyes, gills, mouth all seem to still work, but he's floating around and obviously hurt.

He has been given a couple salt water 5 sec. dips, that helped, then I isolated him and made blackwater extract out of Ketapang and added extra salt. He is resting more comfortably now that the vultures aren't waiting to eat him. He really responded to the blackwater. Used some stresscoat as well. No Melafix on hand.

I think it's a 50-50 chance right now...anything else anyone can think of?

just not too much salt in the water, they are scaleless afterall. i'd say make sure he's getting enough food. they have very poor eyesight and rely mainly on their barbels to feel around for food. but they are hardy fish and he should pull through.
sorry about his mishap, hope he gets better. dojos are such happy fish, it's sad to see them not doing well

hope he will be okay, sorry ....

My prescription is time. I had one get himself stuck through the decorative glass lace on a vase once. Had to break him out with a hammer and he had already sliced himself all the way around his body fairly deep trying to get free. I was worried, but I did not treat him nor the tank to try to heal him faster and he healed just fine with only a white scar circling his body to show for it. Sometimes the medicine is worse for the fish than the injury--just watch it for infection and treat immediately if it shows any signs of fungus. I don't know the extent of the injury, but he will probably be fine just left alone to recover. Give him higher protein foods while he heals.
