In pictures online Dojos always seem to remain a bit slim. Also, the ones I see in shops have been on the smaller end. I went to a shop yesterday and sawy two that were about as fat as sausages, and only about 5in. Is that normal? Mine are about 6 in. One is 1.5 in thick, and the other look sickly barely making one in [bought him recently trying to get him healthy].

I mean, my larger one looks a bit hefty but fine, these loaches were grotesquely fat. Anyone know the average waist line of a dojo?

okay, that's good. i'm just paranoid now that down the road they're going to blow up into fat sausage fish and be immobile lol. these were not attracted loaches that i saw by any means, definitely passed the cute chubby stage to obese

I think they thicken up as they get older. I used to have a fat one that was 6-7".

cold, warmer water is sustainable short term, but i believe it shortens there life quite a bit

They can get quite hefty. My uncle had some that he use to throw in his pond every year and some ended up getting close to 12'' and about the diameter of a quarter.

They would also breed in his pond as well, and they do prefer cooler temps.
