I was in a dollar store a few days ago and walked down the fake plant section. I came across this plant that looked like something you would actually find underwater.
I brought it home, boiled it, rinsed it off and tossed it into a bucket with about 1g of water along with two neon tetras to see if they would die from leaching chemicals. 3 days later and there still swimming around happy as can be. So I took the plant out and did a small modification to the stem over a hot stove so it would stand upright in sand. I'll keep an eye on those tetras and the other fish in the tank for awhile to make sure no one dies.
Check it out. Not bad for $0.50
