Here are 2 of my native tanks. One is a 20 long with (6) Baby Dollar Sunfish and (3) Swamp Darters. Eventually I will only keep a pair of the Dollar Sunfish. All are in the 1/2-1 inch range. At this size they are already scrapping for dominance. The biggest one I think is a male and some color is starting to develop, the others are still dull and gray. I keep both native and some tropical plants in this tank. The other tank is a true Bluespotted sunfish biotope. It has (4) Bluespotted Sunfish 2-2 1/2 inch range and around (14-15) Least Killifish in a 29 gallon. All the plants are also native plants. The Bluespotted sunfish are extremely difficult to photograph. They are really shy and hide from me most the time. They only really interact with me during feeding and they are pretty skittish at the time too. All these fish in both tanks are fed mostly live foods like live blackworms, scuds, daphnia and pond snails. The bluespotteds will take frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp too but they are not crazy about it like they are with the live. The dollars will only eat live, but I have seen 1-2 of them nibble on bloodworms. I am working on getting them all pellet trained. I think I may have a pair of the bluespotteds now too. I see two of them that have colored up and are laying next to each other. It almost looks like a pit where they are laying but no breeding tubes. I also may take out some of the killifish and move them cause I think they are eating and killing some when the lights go out. 1st up is the dollars tank followed by the Bluespotted. Questions, comments, suggestions welcomed.
