Thursday or Friday I will be getting a group of 5 Dollar Sunfish in the 1/2-1 inch size range. They will be put into a planted 20 gallon with rocks, sand and driftwood. Once I get a pair the others will be removed. I plan to feed them frozen blood worms and brine shrimp, scuds, daphnia, pond snails, and live blackworms. I also have flakes but don't know if they'd go for it. What do you guys think about the set up and diet?

Get some small or tiny new life spectrum pellets. It shouldn't be hard to get those guys on pellets. Tank size should be fine. I've kept many different sunfish species and IMO they should be fine in a 20 for a little while at least. I've got some longears right now that are in the 2" range and can barely stand each other in a 50g, so maybe start thinking of upgrading tank size. I hear dollars are even more aggressive than longears.

Cool I will probably pick those up. I might just give them live insects :naughty: . I am wondering if I should put them in a 29 gallon but then I'd have to move some fish around.

Got the fish today and they are already acclimated to the tank. I ended up with 6 instead of 5 of them. They are also smaller than I expected. A few are in the .25 inch range and one is about .75 inch I estimate they are between a month to 2 months old. I snapped a few pics of them.

nice sunnies, Dollar sunnies are one of the most aggressive a 20g will be great while they are young....but they will need a 55g when they get older.
