My science teacher, Mr. Fleckinstein, is bringing me some western dollar sunfish that have been breeding in his pond. I'm not sure how many i'm getting, but they'll be in a 10g growout until this spring when they go outside in a small pond. Anyway, any advise you guys have on them. I have never kept small sunfish and i'm not sure what to do.

I have never kept Sunfish under 2 1/2 inches, but Ive read that its good to start the little ones on daphnia and then move up to blackworms.....I highly recommend going onto the NANFA forum and looking up the wealth of info they have on raising sunfish (Centrarchid and Smbass both have raised more sunfish than I have ever caught fishing). PS. Dollar sunnies get very territorial/aggressive in breeding season so I would only keep one male with a couple of females if you dont want big issues when they get big enough to breed.

Any cichlid food will work for them. If they'r tiny, try crumbled flakes. They usually will take to prepared foods quickly. Give them some plants, driftwood, etc. so bullying doesn't get out of hand. As Warmouth said, adults are pretty aggressive, so don't overstock your pond.
