my BP is taking over dominance in the tank with my JD. i feel like my JD should be dominant since he was in the tank first, and i feel bad that the other fish chases him around all the time to the top of the tank. is there anyway to switch the dominance?

yeah try removing the fish that is dominant for about a week and the other fish should take over within hours . trust me i switch dominance over my tank everytime i feel that its necessary

How big are your fish and how long have you had them together?
Your dempsey will figure out where his balls are soon enough, and the bp will learn to find something else to entertain itself. Mines finally decided shes had enough of my firemouth, and the firemouth is still much larger... :)

and i've had them together for about a week now. but the JD has been in the tank for 5 weeks and the BP has only be in there for one

I think you will be fine.. Dempseys are not wimpy fish.. Took mine a couple weeks. The firemouth still flares....while slowly backing away thinking '...oops...wrong fish...'

alright we'll see what happens, they don't fight or anything so im not worried, he just stole my JD's hiding spot and chases him around all the time

In that case Id say move the decor around... mine doesnt have a hiding spot. Shes Ms. Front and Center Look At Me First
