So I go down to the basement to feed my fish as and to check on em as I do everyday and lo and behold I look up to the left corner of the tank behind the heater where the Dovii usually hangs out and her eyes are bigger than usual. Fins are all messed up and she is faded as all hell. Then I realize she is gone. She only lasted about a month in the tank with my texas and mayan. She was about 2.5", the mayan about 3", and the texas about 5". From time to time she would get chased around by the texas and run to the corner but I thought she would last. Meanwhile leatherface (the texas) is starting to show his true cichlid traits. He is eating from my hand, coming to the front of the tank whenever I come into the room, and following my hand up against the glass as if he wants to take a bite out. He is showing more personality than my Rd that is in my other tank alone.

IME with 2 different sets of fish years apart a male texas will attack and kill a female dovii. Yours was only 2.5" probly to small to tell sex but in general the texas hate dovii. I was hoping for a hybrid of the 2 i think it would be pretty but they seem to hate each other.
Generally, Doviis don't get especially aggressive untill a little later in life, sorry for your loss
