That's because they are. They're the hampton bay lamps from home depot, $20-25/ea, with 1 27w quad power compact in each, for a total of 81w over 10 gallons. Or, for a total of 81w of floor-burning power.

I have left the glass tops from my tank on the floor twice, and both times stepped on it and cracked it. Not quite the same as your story but the lesson is be careful what you put on the floor.
