my 12 inch albino hurt his eye pretty bad on a rock 2 weeks ago and he was getting better with eating and moving around then i did a water change and he went south quick,it also looks like his eye was swollen and either popped on its own or he hit it on a rock or the side of the tank.does this look infected?the other pic is right after he hit it.

Geez that's terrible! I don't think the water change caused it to get worse, they just coincidentally happened around the same time... if it starts getting cottony growth on it, you're just gonna have to treat with some antifungal medicine, but for now add some salt to the water to help prevent infection. I don't think the eye is gonna be functional afterward, though...

Wounds don't release ammonia... unless there's dead skin and flesh hanging on. If you're having nitrite spikes, vacuum the gravel thoroughly, clean out your mechanical filtration, and increase aeration.

thanks.i am thinking i need more filteration i have 2 350 biowheels in a 100 with a 10 inch pleco 8 inch tiger 12 albino 8 gar and 10 shovelnose...i think its canister time

it would be better if you can shift the big guy to a quarantine tank so as to prevent any outbreak of diseases to other inmates. frequent water changes and some antibiotics like tetracycline for 5 days @ 6hrs per day would help him heal faster.

water change and Melifix. Could take from 1-2 weeks to heal

NastY!
