is it possible to set up a swimming pool filter to run on a 180 gallon aquarium. what could go wrong i saw one on ebay that boasts 4000gallons per hour---wow---for less than $200

is it able to be plugged into a 12volt outlet? if it was ur light bill would be thru the roof

For $200 Id try it just use the water pump the filter itself I'd redo most of check the DIY section and I think the filters at hotels run all day if not I'm not swimming in them any more !

those are heavy duty commercial filtration systems, which are designed to run 24/7, or atleast a good ammount of the day. residential filters like the one the OP is reffering to, are not, and would most likely burn out extremely fast, besides shooting the energy bill up through the roof.

$$ wise, running a pool filter 24/7 would be equal to a luxury car payment every month

I just bought a reeflo pump for $200 and its comparable to that pump. Im sure its much more efficent, not to mention im sure its a much better pump. Go to there site and look at there pumps. www.reeflopumps.com

I used a 1/2 Hayward Superpump (pool pump) on my old reef system in my basement. It worked great. I had 2 jets in each of (6) 55g, and 4 jets in (3) 90g, ran a venturi skimmer, and still had to run a bypass valve back into the sump for the extra flow. It was noisy though and the electric bill went up $50/month.
