Here is my story of what happened tonight......
It started off with me doing water changes. About half way through when all of my tanks are at half way, I get called into work. I have one of my breeder stock guppies about to give birth so I cant put it into a net breeder because all of my tanks are too low so the net wont even be underwater. I look around for a prime place to put her. I wouldnt be coming home for over 6 hours so I couldnt just keep her out at room temperature while she is giving birth. I settle my mind on a broken filter housing.
(i bought one and it was broken, they sent me a new one that worked and didnt even bother making me send the broken one. so i esed the casing without the lid with the tank mount)
It just so happens that the only tank for high enough for the "guppy tank" reach into is my piranha tank. So i pop her in it with a fake plant and scurry off to work. At work it is a busy night we serve 221 people (i am busser at a restaurant) I made some good money and think this day couldnt get better. I was in a stellar mood. When i would get home i will have a good $30 in baby cull fish 1 or 2 amazing looking keepers, and a mother thats ready to breed again.
WRONG!
I get home to find that my mother, to help me out, decided to fill up my piranha tank more. She filled it up so there was a good inch above the "guppy tank". Apparantly that was enough for a 4 inch sanchzi piranha to get through and into the "guppy tank" and eat the mother and all of her fry. Leaving me about $50 down and 18 months of selective breeding down. I have been working on perfecting their tail shape for 18 almost 19 months and now all i have is a male, thats it! God what a blow below the belt!
I told my mom that he jumped out of the water and into the guppy tank, she meant well. So the moral of the story, dont let others touch your tanks.
P.S. She actually had the balls to complain about lugging pitchers of water from the kitchen to my tank.
