So I have had my albino channel cat for a good bit now. He is about 10" now in the 45 and going to be in the 240 by the end of the month. In preparation for the 240 i recently bought a 6" silver arowana to go into the tank. I put the aro in the tank with the catfish thinking that a the catfish was to small to eat the aro. and b thinking that the catfish is a scavenger and a bottom feeder should not have to worry about him eating my aro a top swimmer. Well I got home the other day to find that my aro was no there and that my catfish had a massive belly. Really upset about it. Anyone else ever had a situation like this? Or does anyone on here even keep channel cats lol.

-------- RULE NUMBER 1 ------- DON'T TRUST CATFISH ------
I have also been there.... 2 NEW big aro my wallet was 400 € more light. :) under 1 day
But my own mistake.

Post few pics mate.

I had an albino channel cat years ago that seemed as if it thought the other fish in the tank were there for it to eat.

my albino channel cat has eaten:
7 5" creek chubs
1 6" grass pickerel
2 5" yellow perch

I put nothing past him any longer.

In a 10,000 gal pond, my two 2'+ channels have eaten ~50 koi, most 3"-6", worth ~$500-$1000. I too thought "Well, they are nothing like bass or pike, bulky, slow, scavengers". Wrong. Especially at night, their hunting gear (tasting barbels) gives them an insurmountable advantage.

Yea he has eaten a lot of fish to include the aro a peacock bass BGK a 7" fire eel!! Luckily since the 240 will be up and running in a couple weeks I can start using the 45 as a grow out tank before I give him any friends. I did not realize they could be such awesome predators. Here is a pic sorry for the ugly water. he started darting around the tank and got everything stirred up. (Yea i am 2 days past due for a PWC) The picture does not do him justice. I feel bad its taken so long to get the 240 up as he is longer than the 45 is wide. channel cat.jpg

I am very sad to report that this fish has just recently passed away. Now I am on the hunt for another albino channel cat.
