Lesson learned! dont use pH buffers! too much stress. fish will acclimate to all sorts of water conditions. dont use these buffers! too much stuff to worry about!

I have heard pH buffers can still cause dramatic swings in pH, totally stressing your fish.

So your saying discus will do fine in a ph of 7.5?

yes they will, if they breed the eggs wont hatch because the water is too hard, but they will appreciate a stable ph more than a fluctuating one. and unless you are super accurate with your dosing you will get fluctuations. too much extra stuff to worry about

fish will tolerate wide range of pH.

after keeping so many variety of fish, pH is not even a factor for me anymore when purchasing new fish.

playing rollercoaster with your pH is like dumping bleach in your tank (or you might as well).

a stable pH level is the way to go.

wow, this is a really good point; im glad someone thought to bring it up.

leave all those pH-changing products on the shelf, folks.

Ming is dead on. Unless you want to breed a fish , it is better to let the fish gradually adjust to the ph than the other way around . Whats even better is to get the kind of fish that will do great to the kind of ph that your tap water has .
