I currently have 5 dorados (6-9") in my 280gal. I have them all for sale right now. If I sale just one of them will they fight more because there would only be 4 of them or will there be no problems.
Ive never kept them but do know that they can be territorial buggers. If they are happy now id leave it as removing the one may make the group collapse and you may see some signs of agression similar with the east african tropheus species etc.... but channa knows best
i think they are schooling fish in the wild.
ive seen groups chasing prey in the wild.
but ive also seen them solitary as big adults.
it just takes one bad dorado to make things go wrong.
but im sure theyll be fine right now.
Why don't you experiment? Take one out and see how it goes. If they start fighting, put the isolated one back, and remove a different one to see if the new group will fight.
when i had one, it would harass almost any tank mate, add two the stronger one killed the other, then i added 2 more and they fought from time to time, now i have 6 and they get along fine, leave all other tank mates alone also. keeping them well fed helps.
