The LFS I just visited told me this batch of 2 dorados came from a different source. This pics are rather poor (screen captured from a short clip) and the fishes just started acclimatizing in medicated water.

Based on the head shots alone, any chance these are Brasi?

The curve from eye towards mouth are rather obvious unlike the straight slope on my current franky dorado.

Seek opinions from seasoned keepers here; a small chance I could have came across a rare find and wouldn't want to miss it.

Would like to add (after further researching the horizontal-LL counts):

From the better pic above - looks like 17 or more.

Combined with the head shape, I do really want to believe these are the elusive brassies - would be great if I can add one to my current franky and hope they turned out to be like DB Junkie's pair. LOL!

However if they are just Frankies then I will skip and spare the bioload for another species in my comm.

It's really hard to tell.....

I put a lot of trust into the source when I got mine, but I was unable to get my Brassie and Frankie to get along. I have 2 Brassies that do (come from same batch), but all other attempts to get 2 larger Dorado together failed.....

The Brassies here sold for 6 times the cost of a Frankie.

IF it was me I'd put them in my tank draw a conclusion as to what they were then figure out what to do with them...... lol

Thanks man.

I had trawled thru perhaps dozens of threads in search for some answers.

Your brassies (besides the source ID) have such a "curved" head profile (more than any other of the claimed ones) that it is impossible for them to be anything else. LOL!

The only 3 facts that might support these small batch of dorados could be brassies are:

1. The shape of their heads (not franky like but not as curved as your also).

2. The LL count - not something I can 100 percent be sure of.

3. These fishes were reexported from China - I read somewhere brassies do turn up there more regularly than other places.

Nonetheless, the LFS are selling them as normal price dorados - I told them to book one (at least) for me for next week collection. Will try to put it together with my current franky and try to document the differences.

Wish me luck! :D

So no collection point was able to be found? The head thing isn't always a key diagnostic trait, as chicx proved me and a few other members wrong when we went off of that with a particular specimen. The only definitive thing that would be easy is the LL count. But those pictures aren't very good.

Thanks Moe for chipping in. Is it possible to provide me the link on that particular debate where you guys did the LL count?

Would love to look thru that and learn something more. :)

Pretty sure LL count is irrelevant cause they share several numbers.... I remember this from Liam Iron's big Dorado. When it died he counted them and came up with a number EITHER species can carry......

I think difinitive is like the ATF where it's rows of scales above or below the LL.
