Dorado catfish off live?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've bought many of dourada catfish, about 8, over years. I am sure some of them or most /all of them had been fed live before coming to me. I never offered anything live, only humble catfish pellets and thawed fish cut to appropriate size. Usually within the first week they started taking new feeds. In a couple of weeks they would firmly take to the new feeds... if comfortable, which can be hard with these fish. They are skittish and bolt full speed from perceived threats until hitting a wall and eventually can kill themselves.

I had him In a 75 gal for a year and he wouldnt touch massivore at all.. I'll keep on feeding tilapia but he just doesnt seem like he will go for it

I'm finding the fish to be more lively then I thought now that he is in my 300 gal..he actually doesn't like other fish near him and will chase them off

If a fish is given an option of its usual live feed versus others which are non-live, it's no surprise that it wouldn't show any interest in the new kinds of feed. This is not how you wean a fish over to other feeds. Gotta offer only what you want it to accept until it accepts it.

I don't think I saw our douradas chase off other fish, which makes me think yours is an exception... if the ID is correct.

What's its size and what are the tank mates?
