Dorado idc

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks like a Frankie to me based on the head shape.

Tigers as in datnoid or ATF?

Dorados are not known to be good tank mates. It can be very aggressive towards even other predators - with the bulk, teeth and speed to back its aggression.

But they are truly beautiful and active swimmers. Worth a try but do monitor the situation.

GATF and VATF rather than dats the dorado is the smallest my guess was frankie as I had a brazie years ago only 2 inch but I always remember it had a head like a shark big n blunt never even knew what it was back then... thanx for the prompt reply hoping someone who's tried it is around.

It is good to start the dorado at a smaller size. Personally have not mixed these two before; perhaps more keepers will chip in with their thoughts.

I think DB is the person that comes to mind.

Greenerinks said is dorado beat his larger atf up when he tried to comm them I believe. And I'll echo kno4te, DB can help out here as well. He's probably gonna say if it's a Frankie you can try it but it's likely to be aggressive, if it's a brassie you should be fine. Or he might say something completely different lol. Just going by his previous posts.

^ Spot on.... lol.

Everyone seems to think that Brassies are everywhere..... IF they are there should be little to NO aggression at all. Like I said, I've never had a problem with either of the 2 I'm keeping. Same scenario with a Frankie - shenanigans within the first week of being moved in.

Until someone proves me wrong it sure seems like given the experience I've received from these fish, the easiest way to tell Frankie or Brassie is if they bother tank mates.......

Best advice IF it is a Frankie - never let him get control of the tank. Always keep something bigger in there with him. Once he gets to the top of the chain he'll die trying to defend it.

I wonder if the key to harmony in a community pred tank isn't having at least 3 different scenarios of predator - ambush, constantly patrolling, and a combo of the 2? Example - Dorado ATF Wolves Or Dorado Armatus Wolves? Having just 2 may result in a square off, but like groups of fish maybe 3+ is the magic scenario?

Group community in a big foot print can reduce hostility dramatically. I've seen doradoes being able to be comm'd with adult size ATFs with big bodies such as arowanas, datnoid, perch etc. In my personal experience, keeping both, dorado would bully the ATFs nonstop even at almost half the size. Brasis here in china have a reputation for relentless assault by ramming the sides of their victim mercilessly. I've seen my dorado square off with my aimara and Armatus head to head.. Wild stuff. I do mention that it seems that the dorado didn't want none from an Asian arowana with a sizable difference.

Great input thanks all ... really not sure though lol , the tigers are a good bit bigger but the arrows are huge compared to both. I keep looking at wolves but there will be more rays added so not sure.

I've been communing 3 (9 1/2) Frankie Dorados with a 12" GATF and 2 (10") Armatus since early January and so far so good. there has been little to no aggression from them, they just cruise through the tank and they don't bother the Goliath or the Armatus. I have 5 Red Hook SD's in the same tank also and everyone seems to be getting along. I will post a different thread with videos and pics that I have taken since I acquired them. Here are some pics of them:
