How aggressive are S.A. Dorado? How fast do they grow? I have the opportunity to nab some and would like some more info on them first.

i've seen some that were pretty aggressive but only to certain fish it seems one was being kept with cichlids and the owner said it hates any other dorado and top dwellers anouther guy i talked to said that his hated fish the same shape and a third guy said his was fine with just about everything anouther guy on this web site said his fought non stop with his jardini aro

but most people have one thing in common they all said that they grow pretty fast

Cool thanks.

Anybody else with some experiences to share?

I have two. both now about 9". When they were very small they were OK with other fish apart from themselve. I have now managed to get them together after numerous attemps and removals. For mine it size. anything upto about a inch bigger than them get it. Interestingly thay do fight lightly between themselves during lightup time but as soon as the light goes off they cruse together up and down the tank.

They will need alot of space when they get bigger. mine when very small grew at an alarming rate. at least 1.5" a month, now about 3/4 - 1" a month. They can eat massive quatities of food on a daily basis. I would imagine it would be easy to get fat very easily. I have slowed my feeding to every two days now.

they are the coolest fish to watch eat, they actually hit the feeders like a small shark. whenever anybody walks in the room he starts patrolling the tank waiting for some feeders. as far as tankmates mine lives alone, everybody i talk to (mostly on this forum) say all their dorado won't tolerate other fish. but fish are individuals so u never know!!!

they can be kept with other fish they just need to be big and tuff they have to be able to defend themselfs but most dorado can be kept with some kind of fish i don't think i've seen a dorado that didn't have tankmates

like i said everybody i talked to hasn't had luck with housing dorado and other fish they don't even like each other. most of the videos you see are filmed before aggression arises.
