I seem to have a little different luck then what people typically have with Dorado. So in this thread I'm going to post some pics and video of why I think not all Dorado are the stereotypical aggressive monsters many seem to think they are.......

Rob, this one's for you. I saw you say you're worried adding a Dorado to Max's tank, so thought you might get a kick out of a thread like this. ;)

First vid is a Dorado I lost when I had some Stealth heaters fail and stuck wide open frying the Dorado, some cats, and a trio of Gulpers, but luckily no rays.

Awesovid, DB! Was it being harassed by the feeder??:)

Next is one of 2 Dorado I currently have. This one is the aggressor to the other I have in my big tank. Together this one relentlessly harrasses the other, yet shows no signs of aggression towards Balas clearly small enough to eat. Balas might be 4" Dorado around a foot......

Believe they've all been BRAZILIAN :naughty::WHOA::ROFL:
As I thought lol Looks just like Argentine dorado, to me, even as young fish. Your dorado appears to have a very bulky, muscular head; which is the result of any well-cared for sub-adult fish.
I think what you have is maxillosus ..Do you agree?

Yessir..... :)

However it is currently very unhappy in that small tank. That fish was raised stretching it's fins in a 10' tank and with all the food going in there for rays it's pretty easy to make fish look uncommonly bulky. I'll get a vid up here in a bit where you can see a Brycon that can make others look skinny......

I disagree it looking like an Argentinian. Wes has pics posted over in his vendor section of Argys and some other Dorados. When asked which ones we have my lady friend matched ours to the non Argys, and she's clueless about locals. If an untrained eye can easily spot it, I'm thinking it's possible these are different then Argys....

Awesome vids!

Dude you're not helping me. I'm so tempted to PM Wes about an Argentine Dorado. :/
