Have a chance to get either one of these cat fish ... I know the pariba might be a carpetum..

Is the dorado cat a really skittish fish ?? I dont want another fish that freaks out when I approach the tank

Yes, both dourada catfish and capapretum are skittish and, far more problematically, bolt full speed away from any perceived danger until a wall stops them.

Piraiba is roughly the same in an undersized tank. In a properly sized tank, they are calm.

If u can get a piariba ur better off if the price is good then the dorado as long as its the true piariba not the capa

What size tank are they going in and with what tank mates? Most people don't have the capacity to keep either for very long unless you're heavily invested in the hobby.

The Dourada will be more intolerant of water quality issues or bullying then the Piraiba regardless of true Fila or Capa.

I really like the dourada but I heard they ram into stuff and are very scared fish .. I also heard there are none over 2 feet in the hobby .. they would go in a 300 gal

They do spook easily. While there are probably few over the 2ft mark in the hobby it's not because they don't get much bigger just that no one has been able to keep them alive for an extended duration in typical home aquarium environments. Personally if it was me and the 300 gallon was the "permanent" home with no plans to go bigger I would probably avoid both and stick to something that will stay smaller like a Bolt Catfish, Vulture Catfish, Juruense, or even a Tigrinus. Also tank mates matter when looking at any of these catfish, don't know what you're keeping but could become expensive snacks for any of these Brachyplatystoma species fairly easily.

As tempting as it is to get the dourada cat I just dont want another fish that acts crazy like that.ii have 2 tiger fish that are both in the 14-16 inch range and the goliath is just nuts .. but at this rate there is no way 1 of the cats you mentioned could swallow any of my main fish
