In front of my tanks
I just picked up two dorados from a local store. The first day they were fine they swim together like the little spazz's that they are. The second day one started chasing the other around the tank, there 4" and in a 180 should I get a third to break the agro up or will that not make a difference

Get some tinfoils or silver dollars as substitute?

Might be an expensive experience if you go for 3 dorados and it didn't work out.

Get 5 more if you can..it would be awesome shoal. I know you have the cash buddy.

Well AFAIK dorados are solitary as adults, but do shoal together when small for safety. So I'd assume you don't have enough of them and the aggression is becoming noticeable. I wouldn't say go for another if you're planning to keep them for life because you don't know how that will turn out, it may end up causing you to lose one or two, which would suck. So I'd suggest the same as Red and get some dithers to try and spread aggression. However DB has two together fine in a 750g. But his proved to be more in the peaceful side as well.

I had 6, all were fine. Sold 1, all were fine. Sold another 3, instantly two wanted to kill each other. Separated the smaller one, nursed back to health, plumped up, put back together, they were fine.

For 30 seconds.

Thanks guys gonna get some dithers this weekend. I've had alot of fish in my day but never had these I was so surprised on how nasty they can be

So it can be they're growing and that solitary attitude is beginning to show. Or exactly what you suspected, not enough fish to spread aggression

Forget what you know about predatory fish......

Put them in 30-40 gallons...... Report back.

Every time I've had Dorado issues shrinking the tank has brought them back into an alliance. 180 they try to kill each other, 40 gallon = synchronized swimming..........
