Dorado Vs Brycon?

Hello knowledgable "Other Characin" people.

I was wondering, as I've heard they look fairly similar, what's the difference is between juvenile Dorado and Brycon? I presume the Dorado has a larger mouth? I've seen adults of both, but the little ones seen to look similar...

My LFS has a Dorado about 5" (for 250.00 bucks lol, welcome to Canada).

Brycon has a slimmer body, it's colors aren't as vibrant

BTW over here in the canadian praries, those must be at least 500.00 CAN! I wish I didn't move over from toronto

My dorado cost me an exorbitant thirty bucks lol.The two fish have different head shapes.The dorado,when viewed from the side looks to have a more rounded head and the brycon's head seems to almost come to a point.

for similar (to dorado) color patterned bycons, with juvi fish, pay attention in particular to the head and mouth shape/size

I was at a place today that a few brycon for sale.The biggest one,about a foot in length,was going for $80.00 and it had beautiful coloring,orangeish red fins,bright red caudal peduncle and red in its face.The smaller ones were about $40.00 but they were all labeled as barracuda.

this place is monster pets lol, dorado is the better out of the two, they can be so aggressive by themselves
