Dorado w/ Gar?

Has anyone ever kept a golden dorado with the ancients such as gar or arowana? I may be acquiring one and wanted to hear the gargonauts opinion before proceeding. The fish would be around 11", which matches most of my current gar and arowana.

Would it go the same route as other characins w/ gar and get whopped, or would its energetic, fast-swimming style give it a chance? Or would it be too aggressive for the gar?

Any advice or experience on this combo is welcome.

i think DBjunky has or had this combo...maybe not with aros, but with gar...i have seen koji have them with aros...i was going to get DB's dorado to put with my gar and aros, but it fell through, so i think it could be done or atleast enough for me to try it...just have to watch the dorado as they can be/are pricks...i wouldn't put it with the golden gar for the test run...

probably one of the few combos even i wouldn't dare. dorado are too powerfully built, active & aggressive to try. solomon's told me this several times...though probably better phrased. haha

glad i could quote you quoting myself xander...i had forgotten how i had put it originally, haha.

michael i wouldn't try it with any gars that you value...the combo is bound to break down at some point, many things can go wrong with the silver fish syndrome, aggressive characin behavior, and voracious feeding which is bound to out compete and potentially directly harm the gars. they are definitely cool fish, and i have not tried it personally, but what we know of those fish and what we know of gars suggests passing on the combo in this case--

that's about the right amount. def not a combo i would try even if it was just with a "normal" gar
