Hey, my girlfriend and I recently finished cycling a 150 gallon aquarium, sandy substrate, planted with a lot of driftwood and some rock structures.

The newly-stocked residents are:

1x Silver Datnoid (5.5")
1x Dormitator maculatus (Jade Goby/Fat Sleeper) (5.5-6")
1x Common Pleco (5")
3x Horseface Loach (2" -- always under the sand, put in to help me aeriate the substrate)
2x Delhezi Bichirs (4.5")
1x Needlenose "Gar" (5" -- always 2' above the other fishes heads at the top)
1x Cyprichromis leptosoma (Lake T. Cichlid) (3")

---

It's so random because most of the fish needed the upgrade from our other tanks. They all ignore each other save for the Jade Goby, who has been our biggest problem in the past. We love him to death, but he's an absolute monster. He has no qualms about eating things 3/4 the size of his body (seriously) and bullying fish that are bigger than him by ramming them with his head. We hoped the bigger tank would calm him down but he has taken an instant disliking to the Datnoid and has even expressed interested in the Needlenose when he ventures up that high. He ignores the Bichirs and has been a life-long tankmate to the Pleco without problems. The random cichlid is getting moved to another tank before it gets eaten, and the horseface loaches are too quick to be noticed and live under the sand save for their heads.

It has eaten rainbow sharks, leaf fish and once bullied a 5.5" botia modesta (one of the meanest botia) by ramming it into the sand until it was nearly buried. So we got it a bigger tank. Everywhere I read people say they are peaceful aside from their big appetite, but ours is like a rabid pitbull.

Does anyone know any compatible tankmates for our bully? Would another Jade Goby or two distract him, or would they all just gang up on the other fish? We're really excited to find a couple more aggressive fish for our 150, but I don't want them to be the target of our monster. He seems to like the company of slow-moving bottom-dwellers like Bichirs. The Datnoid he occasionally bumps against and tries to scare with dominatory flaring (shaking of the head, puffing up the gills). The Datnoid ignores him but sometimes gets scared despite being just as big and twice as tall.

Has anyone else kept Dormitator maculatus and if so can you recommend any other tankmates? The fish in the tank all eat feeders and bloodworms and occasionally shrimp pellets.

i catch fat sleepers here!!! didnt know they were called jade gobies makes sense tho

Ever thought of getting a second one?

FYI: they do get more and more aggressive as they age, not less.

I have, I just wasn't sure if that would help spread the aggression between themselves or if it would just be the same problem doubled. I have access to some local ones so I could get another one, I'm just trying to figure out if any bad could come of it.

There is like zero information available on this fish aside from basic statistics.

Mine is pretty mean as well. Hes about 8" now. I initially had him with 3 senegal bichirs and a needlefish. He left the bichirs alone for the most part but would constantly harass the needlefish. I figured it was mostly a size issue since the needlefish is so thin so I moved things around and added 2 oscars. As soon as they were in the tank he went after themand destroyed their fins. I dont know what to do with him at this point other than give him his own tank.
