I purchased some datnoids about 2 months back.. I noticed the one has white spots on the edges on his dorsal spikes... Now I noticed that one of his dorsal spikes is completely skinned, and it's just the bone...

Also, I have noticed that out of my 6 Datnoids, only 2 of them actually show their color/pattern. The others are always washed out. They swim around the tank, and come up to you when you go to the tank, but when I was given pics of them, they all had their patterns and were so nice.

Tank: 240 gallon
Mates: 6 Datnoids, 10 3" tinfoil barbs, 2 9" motoros, 1 6" motoro
No substrate, no decorations.

Water params: 0,0,10 temp 78 F ph 7.4

Might be the barbs, they can be pretty mean. also dats are very shy and will do much better if you can provide them with cover.

The ton foils don't bother them at all.. and when I had them in their smaller tank (125) they had hiding spots, and did the same thing..

And about the dorsal, like I said, he has the white skin issues when I got him. It's just now skinned.

I doubt its another fish. The fins aren't ripped, just the spines.. Is there anything that it could possible be brushing the spines up against?

Please do not worry about te washed out colours. That is just indos who can be the most unstable of all the tigers. In 6 months there bars might be bright gold and black. Then u will love them.
The skin off the dorsal is ok. Usually when the tigers fight, some times it leads to split fins, lost scales, or ripped dorsal skin, Whig exposes the White beneath.... This skin will grow back here, but it can take 2-3 weeks dependin on water q.
I highly doubt the ray or TF would do that to the tigers.
If they are eating then I wouldnt worry. It's a bit nasty looking but not much too worry about. Like I said, should be fine in a few weeks. Make sure u do x2 wc per weeks.

Nope, the only thing in the tank is the sponge filters, and the pvc heater guard..

Might be a fungus infection. I had the same thing happen with Dwarf Gouramis though it acted much faster in my fish, they died within a month of the fungus appearing about 3 days after i put them in. I was new to the hobby and the swords in the tank were a little agressive so what i said before is from past experience.

Yeah... I know what attributes come with fungus, and I can rule that out. And if I wanted to, I could take a Scrape/Scope sample, but I don't think it's anything that's gonna come up on there.

I'm just gonna monitor it, and see how it goes for right now.
