Purple Tec...dont know when to dose

Once again I was told this by my cousin who was then verified with an aquarium store.

Dosing depends on the needs of your tank, so cant really judge. That said I never dose anything I don't test for, meaning I only dose, calcium, magnesium, and live foods (phytos/zoos).

Ok thanks for the reply, I actually waiting for the full line of hannah instruments for water testing before I purchase the test kits individual...have your heard of them? Seem easy

Cant say i have, gennerally use salfurt or elos test kits. I would recomend testing and dose according to depletion, so you don't get over dosing, since some of the chemicals can become quite toxic at higher levels.

Yes, definatly, I personally wouldnt even use it, the amounts needed are tiny, and generally get added back in when you do water changes, but its up to you.

Thanks for the info after I get my calcium kit, I guess I can tell how much do my corals absorb it in a 24 hour period and then add based on that.

Just remember to check it regularily, as corals will start to use more as they get bigger of course.

Thanks for the tip, also do you know of a reliable link or your personal knowledge of what all the parameters should be at?

So far I know:

PH: 8.2 to 8.4
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite:0
Nitrate: 0-10

As for the others I've been finding a variety of answers lol...once again I'm sorry for all these questions I just get too worried for my own health lol on the stability of my hoping to be reef tank.

http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-05/rhf/index.php this seems to be more or less what u need, that said, if you want stonies you mite want a little higher calcium then recomended, something like 450-500ppm, also Magnesium is almost if not more important then calcium, as it is needed by to corals to fix calcium to their skeletons (from something I read a wile back... can't remember what at the moment). In other words no mag, no growth.
