Hey folks I rarely use carbon but I wanted to use some on one of my tank's to pull the tannins out of the water but when I went and looked at the price it was like 12 bucks for a dinky little jar of it :WHOA:. I still have a mag 350 basket full of carbon but I used it once for the same purpose months ago. I only ran it for a day and it worked like a charm but is it still good after sitting in a box for a couple months?

It won't expire on the shelf really. As long as its never been used should work just as well as before. Im not sure I fully understood the question however. With carbon its a good idea to make sure the lid is tight it will absorb a ton of impurities from the air (ciggarette smoke , mookie stank , just about anything so seal it up nice)

It will expire after an amount of time in the tank however depending on how much chemicals etc it needs to absorb. So try to gauge its affect and replace when it starts to lose the effectiveness in the tank. I hope I answered your question I had a bit of trouble understanding what you were saying. Maybe its my Sunday after noon goggles... :)

Ahh I see, you hit the nail on the head. I guess since it was not sealed up it could have absorbed all kinds of doo doo from the air. Oh well I will just resort to useing a bunch of WC's lol. Thanks TC, I appreciate the imput.
