I have a 50 gallon container I keep my pretreated/heated water in which I dose with Prime. I last refilled the container a few days ago and when I went to do a water change today I couldn't for the life of me remember if I put Prime in the water. Seachem and other sources says it's "completely safe" to double dose Prime's prescribed 5mL for 50 gallons so I went ahead and gave my 50 gallons another dose. Better safe than sorry, thanks Alzheimers.

Congrats on your excellent set-up, which allows you to dose only the new water you are adding. Considering that there are numerous people who dose the entire tank volume, even though they are doing only a partial water change, then you will be just fine.

To the folks who do the whole-tank dose...seriously, folks, are you actively trying to waste resources and money? Of course it says on the bottle that this is a good idea...it's a good idea for the makers of Prime! :)

Some people may call me cynical...but I'm not sure I can trust them...:)

You should be fine if you had the water in a few days ago because Chlorine will dissipate after so many hours. Also suggest Seachem Safe it will last longer and save you money.

Unfortunately our local water municipality puts chloramine in our water which doesn't dissipate. I'll check into Seachem Safe but Prime is magical stuff, still Seachem though :-)

I've done it this way for many many years. Just seems to me there's going to be less potential exposure to raw chloramine from adding tap water with conditioner directly into the tank and no way to be precise with ratios. I'm a precise guy, OCD along with Alzheimers.

Safe is a concentrated powder version of prime, it goes further per $ but is meant for larger systems. 1/4 teaspoon in 300 gallons of water will remove 1 ppm of chloramine or 1.25 ppm of chlorine. Most water districts dose at 2ppm chlorine or chloramine making it 1/2 teaspoon per 300g, but with 50g you would need a scale to measure accurately. The 1kg bottle I bought years ago for $20 treats 220,000g at 2ppm chlorine.

Well, this is Monsterfishkeepers so lots of people need huge tanks. I find the Prime works best for me since 1 capful treats 50 gallons which is the size of my container to treat water in. This bottle of Prime I got quite some time ago in a 2 for the price of 1 deal and I can't find a date on it so I hope it's not past its shelf life. Seems to still be working and smells just as atrocious in the bottle.
