the tank is not a 5x2x2 as it was just to help me with some measurements i was doing. the stand will hold a 5x2x2 and a 4x1.5x1.5. any comments/suggestions welcome as long as they are constructive.

not bad but a few questions.

Why not center the bottom tank to the center of the stand. Also how to you plan to get to the bottom tank to work on it. (water changes, feeding, etc.)

the small row across the front is a flap that will open and rest on 2 pull out rests. i would have like to centre the tank but unfortunately the cupboard is needed to hide the filters, one of the wives conditions.

what if you make the center row slide out or detachable?

i am unsure how to make it detatchable while making it secure enough when its on. so making it flip open is easier for me as i havent done wood working for a few years.
i have to practice by making a dvd stand before i even attempt the tank stand so i can get it spot on. as its gonna be a big mess if i screw up.

nice idea and stand frame, and to make it slide out,u could just sue the same system computer desks use.the keyboard goes on the piece of wood and has some metal and the sides, and same with the other piece.

exactly what i was thinking of mate. some runners like that on the keyboard bit on desks.
i was a bit unsure if the stand would be able to handle a 5x2x2 due to not having vertical support at middle-front. but i think i am just underestimating the strength of pine. and looking at what most package deal stands are made out of and how much structural support they provide i have realised that mine is more than enough.
