Can i use 2 x 4s to make a double 100 gallon tank stand?

I should have been more specific. It is actually going to be a double stand. 2 100 gallon tanks.

Absolutely. I have a 5 foot 100 gallon and I made a stand out of 2 X 4's that if I could balance it, I am pretty certain would hold my suburban. Two bys are very strong if they aren't knotty. They hold a lot. Now you are putting one under the other, I only have the one but it has six legs. I don't think you want that but I just did it because I had extra wood lying around. Supposedly the tanks only need support on the ends. I have a pic somewhere of someone using concrete blocks as a tank stand. Only on the ends. absolutely nothing in the middle.

lol nice pic.. iwould never trust that.

if you want to make shure the 2x4's are gonna work, get treated 2x4's there stronger and they will last longer if they get wet..

You won't be able to make a center support because that would block the bottom tank, but I don't think you need one.

I went to price the lumber, but they only carry class/category 2 lumber. It isn't very nice looking. I know that I can use 2 x 4s for just one tank, but spanning 5' with a single 2x4 worries me a bit on the front. I'm thinking that I may try and use 2x6s. Not sure though. I really suck at DIY.

used the green lumber of what ever size you use its treated and will last longer.
