Hey Everyone,

I have a friend who can build me a stand out of Steel that will enable me to support a 75 and 90 gallon tank one on top of eachother.

The base is going to be flat so the full weight of the stand will be distributed over a bigger area so it does not kill my floor as badly.

The tanks are:
75 Gallon 48 1/2 x 18 1/2 x 21 3/8 - weight 900 pounds
90 Gallon 48 1/2 x 18 1/2 x 25 3/8 - weight 1100 pounds

I was thinking of making the stand 50 by 20. First tank would sit 5 inchs off the ground and 2nd tank would sit 35 inchs off the ground. The shelf's are going to be 2 inchs thick so this will give me 5 inchs of working room between the bottom tank and the 2nd shelf.

Any difficulties that you guys can see with this set up? The tanks will be running 2 AC 70's each and have a 300 watt heater. Substrate will be pool filter sand and decorations will be a few rocks.

For now I will just set up the 90 gallon tank on the top and leave the bottom shelf for storage till I move out of this 2nd floor appartment. I will be setting the whole thing up in the basement in a year or so with the 2 tanks.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Seems like your going to be ok, but if your going to be doing any work on the bottom one I'd get a little more clearance there...If it's a problem to work on it - it never gets worked on...Dr Joe's rule.

Make it a little heavier and go up a level so you can have a W/D under it all :D

Oh, do test it outside or in your friends living room that will tell you what he thinks of his own work :D.

W/D don't really interest me...actually they scare me hehe. So much easier with 2 AC 70's.

Plus I am trying to keep the 90G tank the lowest possible as it would be hard to view a tank that is 40inchs high from a seating position wouldn't it?
