i have two cannister filters on my 150 they came with filter media already in them....filter pads...carbon bags...porclyn or how ever you spell it tubes for bacteria to grow on ...ive had them running about a year and have a well established tank and never have any water problems....the other day when i was doing some rutine maintence on the filters i realized i could easly fit twice if not more the amount of those porclyn tubes in the canisters would that in time make the cannisters able to handle more of a bioload as far as live stock in my tank????

Yes by adding more ceramic rings you will increase the available surface area for BB to grow which in turn will increase the amount of waste that can be processed

If you add some it will just be there if you need it. If your water is already testing zero ammonia for instance the extra media won't help. But if younadd some more fish you shouldnt have a problem

If ammonia and nitrite level are already zero, I don't see the point of adding more media. Adding them would only restrict water flow in the filter and reduce efficiency.

However personally I would add them, just incase i decided to get more fishes.

x2, especially if flow is not a problem.

Test your water 1 hour after feeding. If you have a positive ammonia result, then you most likely have an issue with insuffucuent / inefficient bio media / not enough bb. Nothing wrong with adding more bio media if you have room in the filter. The more bio media you have, the more overhead you have if a problem occurs, or for future tank stocking requirements.

Just keep in mind that by adding more bio-media does not allow you to totally outstock the tank. More fish more waste.
