is it possible to take 2 thinner pieces of glass to make 1 thick piece for example put 2 1/4" pieces together to make a 1/2 inch piece ???

you will have to use silicon sealant to join the pieces, but there will be a lot of tiny bubbles between the two pieces of glass, so , no i think it might not work , especially for aesthetics.

n-o-p-e! wont even be stronger than normqal.

Yes you can glue two pieces together for more strength. This is usually done on tank bottoms to save cost. You dont need to silicon everything but if you leave gaps, make sure water cant get in between the sheets bcause it will soon algae up and its impossible to clean between. You can also glue narrow strips which will strengthen (more rigidity) a single sheet but glueing strips edge ways (braces) gives best rigidity.

eh.... ur better off going thicker... ever hear " your only as strong as your weakest link" well if one breaks all ur left is with one thats still smaller then u need so it could be total failure

Check with a local glass shop. They may be able to laminate them together...or maybe UV seal them (if you dare to spend that much!).

So basically what your sayng is that it wouldn't be stronger at all ...:screwy:

So I'm sure you'd be willing to do an experiment to prove me wrong ...take one sheet of 1/4" glass and smash it with your hand... now since 2 is NO stronger than 1... and using your logic... take oh ... I don't know ... 10 sheets of 1/4" glass clamp them all together nice and tight and try to break that with your hand...now your logic would say that 10 is no stronger than 1 so I'm sure you'll be a real hit at the local bar when you try to pull that off LOL

All Jokes aside though ... there is SOME added strength in doubling the glass... just not enough to make it worth while ... you would be better off to just do it right the first time and get the thicker glass.

I would take the time and save up my pennies so I don't have to do it again later. IMHO :D
