Since August 2011 I have had some bad luck. Today it continued. Sitting in the basement talking with Tommy I looked at my Dovi tank and did not see the male. I had moved the light some yesterday and did not return it to its normal position. The only think I could say is please Lord not today. Looked and found him about 7 feet from the tank. I threw him back in but he was dead. I had him since 3/18/2008 when he was only 1.5 inch. Today he is a true 14 inches. HE was stunning beautiful and was the perfect mate for the female. The recently laid eggs started hatching today. I do not know if I will keep the female. Since I do not believe in inbreeding I know I will not mate her with any of the fry. I really feel something is trying my patience, maybe something is telling me to give this up.

Dang bro that sux!!! Really sorry to hear that. You shouldn't quit. Raise the fry, sell the female and start over with a nice make from the spawn and carry on his legacy. Then down the road look for another female. You have a brand new challenge now:)

That is rough.......not to minimize what happened but Dovii do grow pretty fast. I would get another one to grow out. I have been pretty lucky and have not had to many issues in a long time. I wouldn't give it up if you really enjoy keeping fish. Sometimes you just have to keep moving forward......can't dwell on the negative things.

Sorry for the loss smitty. That's a crappy thing to have to deal with, but don't give up such a great hobby. You've got the babies and the knowledge so raise one of the fry up.
