8 inch male dovii and a 12-13 inch silver aro? Has anyone seen or heard of a combo like that working in a 210? Would the dovii still be too aggressive?

I personally think that's a bad combo! I've seen Jardini's with aggressive cichlids but jar's can hold their own...... IMO Silvers are very passive and will take a beating.

Aro's can be kept with cichlids as long as they are 2- 2 1/2 times the body size of the cichlid. Yes an Aro won't really be able to dish out any strong defense but they still could hold there own for at least until the Dovii is maybe 12". Then it becomes a Hostile situation. I have seen it done many times before with a 50% success rate but you would be better going with a Jardini.

i wouldn't advise it... i had a silver aro with a synspilum many years ago and i came home to a crisp arowana biscuit on the ground one afternoon.
dovii are much more aggressive than aros...

a larger dovii, say 18", will demand every inch of tankspace a 210 will have to give, and will deff. take out a silver aro. if you want to keep a dovii, either keep it single or a male/female pair.

I would agree, the aro needs to be a least twice the length of the cichlid. Even then there is no guarentee. When my silver was about 17" I had her in with a pair of convicts(4"). The convicts would attack from behind and below, making the aro quite stressed.

its a hit and miss attempt with a dovii with a silver arowana...but more likely a hit since most dovii's are always aggro and have never been able to see or hear about a very tamed and persistent calm dovii that can be kept with other cichlids and other large oddballs...and jardini is more likely the best option you got if you want a dovii with an arowana...as the jardini is the far more aggressive arowana out of them all....

Not doing it. Just saw some 12-13 inchers for $70 and was tempted.
