Does anyone have these 2 fish in the same tank? I have a male Dovii 5", male Jag 8" and would like to get a peacock. I could house the Blackbelt in the 75. Any chance of the dovii or peacock surviving till adulthood or do you think they would kill one another. If needed I could rehouse the Jag. Tank size is 240.

Are you referring to the Peacock Bass? If so I would think you'd be ok. I think the Peacocks grow faster then the Dovii but in a 240G I wouldn't worry too much about that unless it's a tremendous size difference.

And as far as the tank size for one Dovii.. Sure a single Dovii might need a 240G tank to itself.. in 4-5 years.

Fair enough. I have no personal experience with Dovii, yet i suspect this fella will have exceeded 12" in two years time and would be well on the way to staking claim's. I know my Red devil, at about 2 years has claimed a six foot tank as his own. I'm certain no other cichlid will co-exist with him in this tank and i figure male Dovii desire more territory then Red devil's. Maybe my perception of Dovii is a little far fetched. How aggressive are Pbass? As you say, they grow faster than Dovii, could his aggression become a problem?

I've never owned Pbass so I can't speak on their aggression..

Wasn't trying to argue with you on the tank size.. my point was simply that if you can enjoy both fish for a few years then do it, keep the one you like best and sell the other when you get to that point.. most people's interest in the hobby will change a few times in a couple of years so you really never know what you'll have in the long run.

P-bass aren't overly aggressive, IME.

Is the dovii male or female?

I wouldn't worry that much about the jag as opposed to the dovii. Once again, aggression is going to depend heavily on the sex of the jag.

With female of both the jag and dovii, this is a doable scenario in a 240g.

I guess I should have read the post completely! :duh: I think with the males you are going to have some issues!

Actually I myself am planning to get a P.Bass and in the past have successfully mixed them-for some reason my cichlids ignore the Bass-however you will need something larger than 240 gallons-should work for a while though-and yes the Bass grow very fast as do Dovii but Bass grow faster especially if fed feeders-though you risk the chance of disease.

Lol, there was a member who kept a full grown dovii, jag, red devil/midas, and a rtc in a 300 gallon. I don't think it'll be that much of a difference with that mix in a 240. I'd be more worried about the bass being killed by the dovii.

OK thanks for the replies. I had no idea that the peacock were not very aggressive, relatively speaking. I'll scrap the idea.
