HI, Just wanted some food for thought! I have a pair of dovii's who have now laid their 3rd clutch of eggs but it seems like the male never fertilizes them? The first 2 all turned white and i'm waiting to see how the third turns out. I have had them for about 3 mnths started with 6 to get my breeding pair and lost the other four due to a week long power outage. The male is approximately 5 in and the female around 3.5 in. Could it be that the male is to young? Second question if this attempt is succesful what is the incubation period and when should I remove the fry? THanks all imput is appreciated!

Ive got fry right now and my situation is reversed. The female is about 5 inches and my male is about 3.5. If they are fertilized you will see a brown spot form on the eggs after about 3-4 days. After about 10 days you willl have wigglers in the substrate. Maybe about 15 days they will be free swimming. You can either leave them in the tank or take them out if you have another established. Be prepared to lose quite a few fry, I started with about 300 eggs and I ended up with about 60 fry. It has been about two months and they are about 3/4 of an inch long. Good luck and keep us updated.

Dovii breading is good. I use it whenever I have a Dovii fish fry. :D

As far as Dovii breeding, the male may not be ready to spawn even though the female obviously is. Even when he finally fertilizes the eggs, the parents might still eat the first few batches. After they get it right, you should remove the free swimming fry into a growout tank after a couple of weeks and feed them baby brine shrimp and Hikari First Bites. After a little while longer, you can move on to crushed flakes and crushed up pellets or Hikari micropellets.

I like to keep my dovii fry in with their parents for about 3 to 4 weeks. This gives the female enough time to regain her strength after spawning. Once I take the fry out, the male gets all frisky again. This would be fine if he didn't smack her around as much as he does. I also like to use Hikari First Bites when the fry first swim up. I then gradually change over to crushed flake food and frozen blood worms. Good luck with your fish.
