My pair spawned about a month in a half ago I pulled all but about 30 from there tank, now they are about half to a quater inch and today she started laying more eggs male is fertalizing but the parents are letting the fry eat the eggs! i would have thought the parents would remove the fry or at least fend them off. This is only there second spawn, should I let them just.learn for them self or should I try to remove the fry?

I know thats what im worried about! But I have.heard that the parents will usally get.rid of the old fry so the new can grow.

My dovii always eat the previous fry when they were ready to go again. You may be ok though my texas cichlid pair just did the same thing your dovii pair is doing. They are fine. I dont think your male will turn on the female cause there are still fry in there and they are allowing it to happen. Male can turn if all fry are removed, or if they have several unsucessfull spawns. I think they will stop letting the fry eat the eggs when the fry get larger. My dovii only spawn every 4-5 months if i leave the fry in with them. Dont know if eggs were laid in that time or not. Then after a while they would decide they wanted babies and would eat any that were still in the tank then spawn.

Good point Big dovii, I rather just let them be and learn what to do on there own then mess with them, not like Im in desperate need of fry

Just make sure your female has a place to retreat and all should be good. Good luck with your pair.

Thanks guys, she is now fanning the eggs and all the fry are other end of the tank I think the male is keeping the fry away now. Oh ya she has her corner to retreat or she would have been gone along time ago lol.

My pair will spawn with other batches of fry in the tank with them. They never ate the old fry or the new....I was getting tired of fry so I siphoned out the last batch of wigglers before they were free swimming so I could make sure to get them all. After removal the female went postal on my male, he kept trying to hide from her. After a few weeks of that they kissed and made up and had another batch lol. My male is a huge wimp...totally not what a dovii should be at 12".
