i have a nic. male dovii about 5-6 inches with a female about 4-4 1/2" costa rican female
they have been showing alot of interested and making nest all over the tank, being aggressive with other fish
tongiht i noticed the femal laid about 75 eggs but by time i noticed she was eating most of them
this is her first egg layign ever, is this normal?
what should i do? give them a tank alone?

Looks like you've got a pair bro. Try to keep in mind how young they are; like babies having babies. They'll surely spawn again before long. Give the female a few weeks to recondition herself. Feed her lots of meaty food and up the water changes.
Is the male the one you got from me? How's he developing?

yup male is from u and looks great! neon blue1 they are in a 150g now with few other cichlids, wondering if i should use my spare 75 just as a breeding tank for them?

If the tank that they're in now isn't too crowded, I'd leave them be. Having to defend their territory will help to strengthen the bond between them. Plus, once you keep them alone it'll be very hard to add them back into a community setting. Good luck!

I would not mate, or at least sell, a nic/costa rican mix. Just my thoughts. If you are just mating them for fun, that would be fine, but I would not distribute them.

y? i didnt pair them up on purpose i had a male and a female they liked each other adn wanted it on. i dnt see what the big deal is if they are 2 dif kinds

If you are really seriously asking after this statement "i didnt pair them up on purpose i had a male and a female they liked each other adn wanted it on" then I really do not think you understand. Just because you did not pair them on pupose, and because they "liked each other adn (sp.) want it on", then I guess it is fine to breed anything that "want its on".

Myself I try to breed fish that will carry on the true traits of the fish, not a mixture of fish. This is not even a try to breed a flowerhorn type fish, this is just muddying the specific dovi traits in the aquarium trade.

If you just breed them to see the breeding and parental care without distributing the fish, that is fine. Please do not let these fish out into the public.

Good luck with your pairing and may they want it on alot.

I would even say don't let them breed period. Because, if they do, then you've got a brood of fry on your hands. As time passes, you watch the parents care for them. You watch them grow. Then what? Most people are too attached at that point to destroy them or use them as feeders...
