I recently purchased a female dovii and she is around 4-5 inches long and is in a 110 gallon tank with a divider and a male dovii around 6 inches and I was wondering how I should go about trying to breed them. The male had already had a mate but he killed her shortly after laying eggs, so I made a divider and was wondering how to breed them that way?

breeding with the divider? I think's it's been done with flowerhorns. I've seen setups where the smooth stone or anything was setup right beside the divider. I've not seen the results though. The male might be a little young for breeding though. That's probably why it is aggressive because it's in adolescent stage... arrange the rocks and decor so the female can run and hide inside a "cave" just in case of fatal aggression, but I think they will pair up. Where is the temp of the water? How often do you change water? What kind of food are you planning on feedng to stimulate the female into breeding? I couldn't stop mine from laying eggs...Pretty soon the fish room would be over populated by dovii!!! big problem. :) keep us posted

I was just wondering if it was possible to breed doviis that way because my male has ripped up the other 2 females i've put with him.

Any suggestions on what to feed them, water temp, and how often to change the water?
i feed mine mostly pellets...and sometimes chopped beefheart, not chunks, they are hard to digest. also i give them shrimp, krill, and the ocassional goldfish...temp is around 78 and i change water every 10 days...about 30-40%. add a little salt to taste :)
