Got a small laser pointer for our cats, saw my Dovii kinda watching from the sidelines. He shows some serious speed going after this thing. I worry though about him hitting the sides of the tank in pursuit. Anyone elses cichlid respond this way to pointers or anything else? I've heard of people having a ping pong ball in their tanks for their larger cichlids to play with. I honestly would be afraid he'd eat a ball.

Yea, good points. I just figured it'd give him something to do. At first I used it just to get him to come out of hiding........He's out and about now, and even comes up to the glass when the cats are near which is pretty amusing all by itself.
I do it with my oscars. I stop shining the light when they get near the side of the tank. Never had one hit the glass. They go nuts when the green laser hits the tank. Lol
