hey guys my fm dovii just layed eggs. What do I do. Also how long should it be before they hatch, if they hatch. Would the female lay eggs even if the male isnt that big. Anybody with personal experience or knowledge of this species please let me know what to do, as I would love to have a tank full of monsters!!!! thanks

seeing how my cichlids just ate all their eggs, I would take them out (watching your fingers of course), and put them in a small tank with an airstone next to them.

and take out dead eggs (white ones) manually

I had a female dovii (only dovii or parachromis in the tank) that would lay daddyless eggs every couple weeks and defend them viciously even though they were obviously infertile! You might be experienceing the same phenomenon.

if i dont remove the eggs will the doviis eat them. just wondering because i really dont have room for another tank. also how long should it be before they hatch.

couple of days

any updates...i know this thread is 5 days old. but anyway.

same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. my young male and mature female spawned. keep an eye on the eggs. some may have turned white by now cause the young male might have missed some of them. a few more days and youll see a dark spot appear on the brown eggs. this is the eye. and dont be surprised if they bury them or move them around a few times.
in about 10 days they should be free swimming. they will eat the eggs that dont get fertilized (the white ones). you shouldnt have to take them out for awhile. they are good parents.
the only trouble i am having wiht mine is that the male is startin got harass the female and i may have to divide them. but they both take good care of the fry. check out my gallery for pics of my pair and their fry.

well guys sorry to say but unless she moved them and I just cant find them, she must have had roe for dinner. The last day I saw them the majority of the eggs were white so I'm thinking that they were infertile. I'll let you know if anything changes.
