My buddy has a male dovii about 16-18inchs in a 210g by it self. I have a female Freddy (la cibla or however you spell it) she is around 10inchs. My question can they breed? I need to get rid of her so we were thinking of putting her in the 210 with the dovii with a tube she can only fit in. The only concern I have is anything we put in the dovii tank he kills. We were going to get a female dovii at some point. I just wanted to give this a shot to see if we could get a hybrid fish. I have seen dovii jag mixes. We can't put a divider in the tank either because the dovii will def break it lol he's a beast! Any suggestions please post.

I don't see why they couldn't breed--same genus, that is known to breed with fish even outside of the genus.

I don't see why you would want to make hybrids though, but that's a different discussion.

J just don't want to give her to some fish store. I just don't know if she is going to survive with the dovii that's why I'm asking.

if they breed i want some fry

put a grid divider up cut a hole out of it so that she only fits through it. Cut another piece a little bigger then the hole you cut and put it on the hole like a patch, zip tie the patch to the divider to close the hole. Let them get to know each other once they do you can just snip the zip ties with scissors and she can mingle with him and escape if nessasarry.

What he said^

Hmm for all that I much rather wait till we get a female dovii. I just think he is going to bust the egg crate. How would you suggest we secure it in there so he doesn't bust it. I've seen him hit the lids up no problem and my buddy put little straps on the lids too. It's crazy how strong he is.

Well you will still have the same issue when it comes to introducing a female Dovii in with him if he is that bad.

Sometimes you just wont be able to introduce anything to certain fish. Have unfortunately had that problem with a few fish (mainly male Jags to be fair) You could try using heavy rocks and fishing line to bind the divider too.

Its not easy but may be the best option.

Yea he's def a mean sob, but at the same time very polite to my buddy and I when we look at him or just sit in front the tank. He has an unique personality.

Thats why I love Cichlids. Especially Dovii. I had a lovely pair years ago and they were mean to everything but were always all over the tank when I was in front of it begging for food. Even when spawning they never showed aggression towards me but would hammer off the tank at the dog etc.

There "interesting" characters.

Hopefully a female works.

I just bought another few Dovii and seems to be a young male and female so there in a grow out tank just now before the upgrade.
