Hi Guys,

While I initially thought my female Dovii ate all her eggs... It turns out she just moved all the good ones!

I discovered this during a water change and tank clean, when my female attacked and bit me, I looked a little closer and I could see 20-50 fry wiggling about in a small plant pot..

This has taken place in my main display tank, but is currently divided by eggcrate. In one half I have my dovii pair and in the second I have a Juvi dovii and pleco. At the moment i dont have any spare tanks to relocate the smaller dovii. I understand that he poses a risk in eating the fry.

I realise that in a few days time, the fry will begin to swim out of the plant pot and venture out to the rest of the tank. They will potentially swim into the mouth of the preditor !!

What am I do?

Relocate the fry? I do have a spare 1ft tank I can use for the interim period for the fry. Or should I relocate the the smaller Dovii?

Another thing, is feeding the fry. When will I know they've eaten the egg sacks and need to be fed? And what food should be given to the fry?

The fry at the moment they're roughly 5-7mm in size and would be roughly a week old. (from the time the eggs were laid)

Firstly,congrats on the fry.
I would wait until they are well and truly free swimming before removing them.Start feeding BBS(baby brine shrimp) about 7 days after they are free swimming. You'll know if they take it.Introduce crushed pellets, flake foods as they put on size.Use anything you can as a temp holding tank until you can get a grow out tank for them.If you have to, get a foam box from the lfs and line it with a plastic bag for the mean time.Just run a heater and a air operated foam filter.Use the water from the main tank when you move them.Just slowly siphon the fry out while dodging attacks from parents..Do daily w/c's of 25% to keep up with water quality.BBS can quickly foul water.Hope this helps some.
