Just wondering , on a hefty feeding schedule, once a day, but highly varied, what can be expected from say maybe 1-2" in a year? Do they show a preference/benefit to favorite foods? Are they always psychotic or can you mix them early-on and establish a tank with them and other equally nasty fish? How soon can they be sexed and what is the best way? I imagine females are much more likely to "get along" with other fish, anyone have experiences of success they want to share which species with? I have been told growth is fast, at what point does the growth rate start to slow? At what point does Pinhead and the Cenobites jump out of them and rip you apart with hooks on chains?

Hi frank my male went from 2" to around 12"-13" in the first year then he slowed down to about 2" a year but he has really really filled out in width and girth he's now 3 years old and 17" long around 3"-4" thick and maybe 6"-7" deep, I feed my guy twice a day, his favorite food with out question prawns (shrimp) for human consumption , his favorite pellet food is tetra cichlid XL, they are pritty placid when there smaller a will tolerate other tank mates, well mine would until he hit around maybe 13"-14" then he got his own tank (375g 96x30x30) I sexed mine at around 5" mark, I could tell because he started to get his spots and started showing blue on his fins, hope this helps you buddy. If missed anything sorry

Excellent!!! Exactly the type of informative posts I'm looking for :D

How about tankmates that were capable of holding their own w/ the big bad wolves and for how long?

I wouldn't advise tankmates at all, you'll just end up having to move a very stressed out fish to another tank.

Well at the size he is pritty much nothing unless you have a pond, he's 17" of pure wrecking machine lol, but when he was smaller he lived with my GT's and they were fine he was actually very passive when he was a baby/juv, he started to get super aggressive/ crazy at 12"-13" which is when he was removed and put in his own tank, i have recently tried to add a 20" jardini but that didn't work the jardini had to be removed within an hour or the Dovii would have killed it for sure, i moved it on quickly to a freind, I have also tryied a 20" ted tail cat that actually lasted a little longer, but he/her hid at all times in a cave, the Dovii wouldn't even let him/her come out to feed with out attacking him/her so I moved it on as in my opinion it was just unfair to the fish,to be honest I gave up at that, as I'm pritty convinced he will not tolerate any other fish in his space with out a fight to death

Good stuff guys.

Mandamota Mandamota , I know you got some wolves....care to add ?

I've been trying to get it on video but my male for whatever has decided that the center brace in his tank is the enemy. He backs up into a corner and rockets into the lids. I have diy lids and he kept knocking them on the floor so I stacked to heavy glass lids ontop. Yesterday he hit them so hard he knocked the top glass clear two foot onto the floor and he isn't even that big yet. You have been warned haha. Oh yeah he got a pretty good injury to his head from it. He's only about 9 inches

Ha my guy does the same thing with the glass sliders as he can see his reflection and thinks it's another male, my fella has already smashed two sliders as its only 6mm glass, the way I fixed the problem was to lower the water level 3-4" this has seemed to stop him butting the glass, you could give it a try it worked for me lol

Only large male dovii I have seen in a community tank is guapotemel on YouTube, but I would say they need to be solo or a pair
