Just trying to get others' experiences with growth of their male doviis.

Mine grew from 4-5" to 10-11" in the first six moths I had him, but seems to have slowed down in the past month. Instead of length, he is putting on girth and height. He is getting very massive now. I am hoping he continues this slow down in growth.

By the way, he lives in a 125 by himself, and gets a 50-70% water change once a week.

What experience have you had?

ive not owned any, but would love too!

i do know they have similar growth rates to oscars but its pretty obvious that they will slow down when they are older due to becoming matured, they start to slow down at about 7-8" after maturing

Mine has grown from 4" to 6" in about 5 weeks. He is growing EXTREMELY fast and is packing on some serious weight! Was a skinny little guy when I got him but is very deep in body right now.

Easily the fastest growing fish I have owned.

HA Mbuna like your sig Representing my Group!

Mine went from 1" to 9" in a year. It has taken him 4 months to get to 11". He is in a 125 alone and gets a 60-70% water change each week. What are you feeding him? Mine gets freeze dried krill (soaked in Kent Zoe about 50% of the time), Hikari Massivore, Hikari Gold Sinking, and the Zoo Med Super worms (big mealworms once or twice a week).

from what i've seen with my juvi and from research i've done they grow around 1'' per month until they are 9"-10". then they slow right down and grow outwards.

keep up good steady water changes and varied diet and you should still see them grow close to their full size in 2 - 3 years

like i said this is mainly research i've done but it seems this is the common story with their growth patterns. hehehe i'll let you know in 2 years how i go...

Mine grew to 9" from 3" in about 6-8 months, then started to fill out more rather than get longer.

That's too bad. Another few months and he will be gone.
