My male dovii is growing out in a 125 gallon alone. He's about 6 inches. Problem is when the tank lights are on he hides. Turns gold with his bars showing. He'll go into his pot and hide. Any chance he will grow out of this? I've tried using a 4 ft double bright. For reef tanks. Same light with only 2 of the 4 bulbs on.....a 30 inch fluorescent. Same 30 inch light with all but 2 inches covered. And just recently the 4 foot light again with only the moon lightning on. Just wondering if i could get some tips on what to do. With my small room lamp on he is normal and with the sun light during the day he acts normal.

Don't worry about it, in fact leave your lights off. Less algae and more active dovii. I took the lights off my male dovii's tank.

Thanks. Its no big deal. Most of my tanks in my fish room don't have lights and the ones that do i never turn them on anyway. Other than him hating light he's awesome and really starting to color up nicely.

Alot of doviis go through a shy phase. He will come out of it as he gets larger. Then when larger they will hate everything else.

How long has he been in the tank? When I first got mine he was very shy until he got used to the tank, about a week. After that he would try to scare me off when I'd come up. I just moved him again and he is again very shy until he adjusts.

Not always true, I have a friend who owns two male dovii's. One is 14 inches and the other is 20 inches. The 20 inch dovii is very active and will always try to attack you, while the other 14 inch one is a chicken who hides behind a rock.

Yes, a lot of them go through shy phases and will change. Some will be shy all their live, which is rare but it happens.
