sorry I cant get you guys a pic since I cant find the wire to hook it up to the computer, but I will describe the problem the best I can. I just bought a new dovii last week. hes about 3 inches long and the best colored Ive seen for that size so I dont wanna lose him!

just yesterday I noticed what looks like part of his gill hanging down on one side. I thought maybe it was a parasite, but it seems like the skin is attached just below his jaw and the piece of gill came out of the gill plates and is dangling from under his chin. (IE not something hanging out of the gill plate, but hanging off his jaw). its also strange to me that he doesnt seem to be any less active. he still eats like a pig, and is aggressive as hell.

what should I do? what meds can i put in to make sure he doesnt get an infection? should I catch him and cut off whats hanging there or just get a better look at it and let it be? none of the other fish in the tank have anything similar and Ive never had any probs with parasites or ich or anything in this tank.

I pretty sure its a piece of his gill but it looks dead. its not red like youd think, just the color of the rest of his body. ahh I dont know!

looking more closely I noticed its the valve type flap (opercular valve?) that opens and closes when he breathes that is mostly missing on that one side. anyone know if it will grow back? or is he just gonna have to learn that hes gonna have to breathe a bit harder for the rest of his life.

yeah I just fed them again and he ate quite a bit. I hope hell be ok
