Hi guys. I have a 150 gallon. Looking to put a male dovii in it. My lfs has this Dovii and willing to give me a good price. But I'm thinking it might be female.

I know the pic is bad and probably hard to tell. But if you can take a stab at it. I appreciate it.

Thanks.

Looks male but it's hard to see a lot with photo quality. If it has spangles/ sparkles on unpaired fins its a male.

Thank you. yeah, the more i have looked at the pics , the more i am leaning toward male. it was also hiding in a small 20 gallon at the fish store. so i am sure once i had it in the 150 gallon by itself it would eventually get comfortable and show its true colors and it would be easier to tell. .... i'm debating on getting it. i told myself i would give it a few days to think about it.

I initially was wanting to do a couple of the smaller peacock bass, mono i believe. but would need to order them online, etc. and they would more than likely be very small. so have been leaning toward a Dovii. still debating.

thanks again for the response.

difficult to tell from the pic, my guess however would be male as well.
Dovii tend to be pretty shy and hide most of the time until they are over a foot long. Cant quite tell how big this one is, but I would expect it to be shy until a bit larger.
I would also recommend a red tiger motaguense instead of a dovii for a 150, unless you plan on upgrading in the pretty near future. Red tiger motas are beautiful and have just as much attitude, and won't outgrow a 150 like a Dovii will.
